For all those people who “can't keep their dog” because they are getting a divorce, moving to a place that "doesn't allow pets", and are going to "have" to take their pet to a pound because the kids no longer play with it, etc...

This woman has been through a 9.0 earthquake, a killer tsunami, a nuclear power plant that is emitting radiation, has nowhere to live, is hungry, is cold, and she STILL HAS HER DOG!!!!!!

The Rime of the Adopted Dog

The cops found me alone and lost
In a bad part of the city.
I had had a decent home
But now things were quite gritty (I don’t swear!).

They put me in a wire cage
And took me for a ride.
If not for my wagging tail
I think I might have cried.

In a loud room filled with barking dogs
I had to wait and wait
For my family to come claim me –
But that would not be my fate

They never showed, they never called
They didn’t seem to care.
How could they let me stay in here
When they were right out there?

The shelter had so many dogs
It would crowd up and then
One by one would “take a walk”
And not come back again.

One day a lady stopped and stared
And asked to take me out.
Would this be the final walk
I had so worried about?

Would this be the end of me?
The mellow yellow pup?
With love to give and life to live
Was my number already up?

We started walking down the aisle
Past dogs with eyes so pleading
I could not bear to think
Of all the homes that they were needing.

Why were they here and not out there?
Did they really deserve this?
Where were their homes, their families?
No wonder they looked nervous.

Down the aisle with head hung low
I slunk to face my fate
But then she took me in her arms
And walked me through a gate.

We played and snuffled for an hour
At last she said to me,
“How about I take you home
And find you a new family?”

As we walked out that cold fall day
I had to wonder why
I had gotten so lucky when
So many others would die.

She found me a forever home
It’s been eight great years since then
But every so often in a bad dream
I’m back in the shelter again.

And so I ask you humbly,
To help end all this strife,
To adopt, to rescue, not to buy
In short, to save a life.

*Budds Creek: Law prohibits horses from sleeping in a bathtub, unless the rider is also sleeping with the horse.
*Law states that anyone who rides a horse recklessly or while drunk will be punished.

MN LAW-
*Clearbrook: Female riders be aware of this one governing the heel length of a horsewoman's shoes. Any such woman can wear heels measuring no more than 1 1/2 inches in length.

MO LAW-
*Pattonsburg: No person shall hallo, shout, bawl, scream, use profane language, dance, sing, whoop, quarrel, or make any unusual noise or sound in such manner as to disturb a horse.

MT LAW-
*Wolf Point: No horse shall be allowed in public without its owner wearing a halter.

NC LAW-
*Boone: No rodeos allowed,law states no man is allowed to ride his horse in a violent manner.

ND LAW-
*Bismark: Every home within the limits of Bismark must have a hitching post in the front yard.

NE LAW-
*Kearney: A newly married man in can't ride alone. The law states that he can't ride without his spouse along at any time, unless he has been married for longer than twelve months.

NJ LAW-
*Automobiles are not to pass horse drawn carriages on the street.There is no horse racing allowed on the New Jersey Turnpike.

NM LAW-
*Raton: it is illegal for a woman to ride horseback down a public street with a kimono on.
*Omega: every woman must "be found to be wearing a corset" when riding a horse in public. A doctor is required to inspect each woman to make sure that she is complying with the law.

ND LAW-
*Waverly: you better not let your horse near the tub, since horses are prohibited from sleeping in them, as well as in the house.

NV-
*Schurz: they have an old law which prohibits the trading of a horse after dark.
*Basalt: Men are prohibited from eating onions between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm while out riding.

NY LAW-
*New York City: it is illegal to open or close an umbrella in the presence of a horse.
*Hortonville: The rider of any horse involved in an accident resulting in death shall immediately dismount and give his name and address to the person killed.

OH LAW-
*Lowell: It is unlawful to run a horse over five miles per hour.
*West Union: No male person shall make remarks to or concerning, or cough, or whistle, or do any other act to attract the attention of any woman riding a horse.

OK LAW-
*One may not promote a "horse tripping event".
*Yukon: It is illegal to tie a horse in front of city hall. While passing another vehicle, you must honk your horn.
*McAlester: It's taboo for a woman over 235 lb. and attired in shorts to be seen on a horse in public.

OR LAW-
*Eugene: It is legal to conduct a horse race or a symphony concert.

PA LAW-
*Any motorist who sights a team of horses coming toward him must pull well off the road, cover his car with a blanket or canvas that blends with the countryside, and let the horses pass. If the horses appear skittish, the motorist must take his car apart, piece by piece, and hide it under the nearest bushes.
*Wellsboro: Citizens are prohibited from buying, selling or trading horses "after the sun goes down", without first getting the permission of the sheriff.

RI LAW-
*Riding a horse over any public highway for the purpose of racing, or testing the speed of the horse is illegal. Penalty: Maximum $20 fine and imprisonment for 10 days.
*Wakefield: Violation of the law for a married man to ride on Sunday.

SC LAW-
*When approaching a four way or blind intersection in a non-horse driven vehicle you must stop 100 ft from the intersection and discharge a firearm into the air to warn horse traffic.
*No horses are allowed into Fountain Inn unless they are wearing pants.
*Marion: Illegal to tickle a female under her chin with a feather duster to get her attention while she's riding a horse.

SD LAW-
*Pine Ridge: where horses are banned from neighing between midnight and 6 am near a residence inhabited by human beings.

TN LAW-
*Stealing a horse is punishable by hanging.
*Prohibits riders from lassoing fish.
*Cumberland County: Speed while on horseback upon country roads will be limited to three miles an hour unless one sees a bailiff who does not appear to have had a drink in thirty days, then the horseman will be permitted to make what he can.

UT LAW-
*It is illegal to fish from horseback.
*Bluff: Legislation regarding the Sabbath: Women who happen to to single, widowed, or divorced are banned from riding to church on Sunday. Unattached females who take part in such outlandish activities can be arrested and put in jail.

VA LAW-
*Upperville: bans a married woman from riding a horse down a street while wearing "body hugging clothing" a $2 fine can be imposed on any female rider who wears clothing that "clings to her body".

WASHINGTON, DC-
*It is illegal to fish from horseback.

WV LAW-
*Pee Wee: people are prohibited from swapping horses in the town square at noon.

WY LAW-
*Riverton: No female shall ride a horse while attired in a bathing suit within the boundaries of Riverton, unless she is escorted by at least two officers of the law or she be armed with a club. The provisions of this statue shall not apply to females weighing less than 90lbs. and exceeding 200lb.

THE HISTORY ...

For nine months, an investigator worked undercover inside the filthy, deafeningly loud kennels of Professional Laboratory and Research Services, Inc. (PLRS).

Inconspicuously tucked away in rural North Carolina, PLRS takes money from huge pharmaceutical companies to test insecticides and other chemicals used in companion animal products. Bayer, Eli Lilly, Novartis, Schering-Plough (now Merck), Sergeant's, Wellmark, and Merial, the maker of Frontline flea and tick products, are some of the corporations that have paid PLRS to force-feed experimental compounds to dogs and cats and smear chemicals onto the animals' skin.

The investigator found that toxicity tests were just part of what the animals endured. Laboratory workers appeared to despise the animals in their care—they yelled and cursed at cowering dogs and cats, calling them "a******e," "m**********rs," and "bitch"; used pressure hoses to spray water—as well as bleach and other harsh chemicals—on them; and dragged dogs through the facility who were too frightened to walk.

Video evidence shows that terrified cats were pulled from cages by the scruff of the neck while workers screamed in their faces and that a cat was viciously slammed into the metal door of a cage. One worker grabbed a cat and pushed him against a chain-link fence. When the cat fearfully clutched at the fencing with his claws, the worker jerked him off the fencing, saying she hoped that the cat's nails had been ripped out.

Dogs at PLRS may spend years in cages, either to be used repeatedly in tests or to be kept infested with worms for some future study. They are just like the dogs we share our homes with, but they live day in, day out without exercise or enrichment, companionship, a scratch behind the ears, or even a kind word from the only people they ever see.

Many dogs had raw, oozing sores from being forced to live constantly on wet concrete, often in pools of their own urine and waste. Workers didn't even move the dogs when they pressure-sprayed the runs, frightening the animals; soaking them with water, bleach, and soap; and exposing already painful sores to harsh, irritating chemicals.

PLRS didn't bother to keep a veterinarian on staff. Instead, it chose to bring its primary veterinarian in for only one hour most weeks. Animals endured bloody feces, worm infestations, oozing sores, abscessed teeth, hematomas, and pus- and blood-filled infections without receiving adequate veterinary examinations and treatment. Sometimes, the conditions were ineffectively handled by workers who had no credentials or veterinary training.

After a supervisor gave one dog an anesthetic that was past its expiration date (and likely administered too little of it), the supervisor pulled out one of the animal's teeth with a pair of pliers. The dog trembled and twitched in apparent pain, and the supervisor continued with the procedure despite the dog's obvious reaction. Workers repeatedly cut into one dog's tender, blood-filled ear, draining blood and pus but never treating the underlying cause of the dog's suffering and apparently causing the ear to become infected.

Dogs were intentionally subjected to worm infestations for tests, but conditions were so sloppy that dogs who weren't supposed to be part of the study also became infested and were then left untreated. In one test commissioned by a corporation whose products are sold in grocery and drug stores nationwide, a chemical was applied to the necks of 57 cats. The cats immediately suffered seizures, foamed at the mouth, lost vision, and bled from their noses. Despite this, the substance was put on the cats a second time the very same day.

To cut costs, PLRS killed nearly 100 cats, rabbits, and dogs. The company had decided that some of these animals' six daily cups of food were too expensive.

Dogs Saved from a Burning Horse Trailer

Kudos to my friends Deborah & Lee and Becky & Nelson for saving two dogs from a burning horse trailer!!While camping at Wildcat Mountain State Park in Wisconsin, they pulled two little dogs from a burning horse trailer, and saved their lives.

The two saved little dogs were a Chihuahua and a Corgi.

Deborah crawled and reached through one of the trailer windows (doors were locked), called the dogs to her and pulled them out.

This is Crickett, the Corgi

Here's a bit of the story from Becky:

"Raven - here's the one dog, Crickett and the trailer. The front part is where we rescued them from the living quarters section. We really just got them out in the nick of time. It was kind of like God orchestrated the whole thing, for whatever His reason was. The night before, we met the people and their dogs - especially the Corgi, Crickett, because our Corgi just died. So, we paid attention to where those dogs lived and which people they went with.

The next morning, Debra was mentally just noticing windows in rigs and how some slide from side to side and some opened like slats. After our ride that last day, I kind of wanted to do one more loop which would have added a half hour to the ride, but Nelson stressed that we needed to work the next day and really ought to be packing up. Had we gone for that extra loop, no one in the campground would have known that there were dogs inside that camper.

When Nelson and I ran over to the burning camper, Debra just followed, not knowing why we were running to a burning camper like that. We checked the doors where we would have kept our dogs, but when Debra learned there were dogs inside, she immediately thought of the living quarters where SHE keep her dogs. And, since she had been studying windows that morning, she was prepared. Debra just touched the screen and it fell away, and Pee Wee leaped into her arms. She couldn't see the other dog and didn't remember her name. Since I had Corgi on the brain, I knew it was Crickett and so we called for her - a little chubby, so as Debra tried to get the body through and commented that we were running out of time, I tried to push the windows slats a little wider. She pulled the Corgi through and I swear her fur was smoking a little bit. We ran a ways away with the dogs and Nelson told us to turn around - there where Debra had pulled the dogs out, the window was FULLY engulfed in flames.

It was quite a scene. Those poor people - funny that we got the dogs' names and not the people's!!"

The owners thought that maybe it was the fridge may have started the fire.

I think it was Becky and Nelson's "Little Angel Corgi" directing them to these folks and their little dogs.

I hope the trailer owners are able to replace their trailer. So happy that their little dogs were saved!

Barney was the $200 Tennessee Walking Horse for sale in OHIO, he's family no longer wanted him.

A young NJ family traveled to meet him, they fell in love with him. A band of Angels including Lisa Gordon of Frog Pond Draft Rescue made this fairy tale come true enjoy.

Barney made it around 4:30 according to description on one of the photos. I'm sitting here sniffling looking at them, here's this guy.... not 20...but more like 30, way way too skinny (although he's put on weight since Lisa picked him up) whisked from Ohio to NJ. He meets his new family in the wee hours this am and one of them looks like a fairy princess. And to my sentimental sappy eyes this am, I think we helped reunite two special souls,. Anybody else see it??

Even if you do not live in this part of the country, it is a wake-up call for all dog owners. It could happen anywhere.

ADVISORIES- BUNCHER ALERT: North-Central MN/WI - BE ON THE ALERT FOR CANINE THEFT!

URGENT: PLEASE FORWARD and CROSS-POST EVERYWHERE!

I am writing to let you know that there is a LARGE group of bunchers working from the Hibbing-Virginia area down through Duluth-Mid Minnesota-mid Wisconsin.

I have not only spoken with many people who have had their pets stolen from their fenced yards, taken off tie-outs, and one brave enough to run up to a man's porch in broad daylight and try to steal his Dachund. Luckily, he lived by a 4 way stop, and ran into the street in front of the cars. When he yelled "What are you doing with my dog" the woman threw her out of the window to the pavement and said "We thought she was lost" then took off before he could get a license number.

Note: A woman was driving and she had a 9 or 10 year old girl run for her. Unfortunately, I was an intended target as well.

I'd noticed a blue truck with a topper and a sort of loud muffler going slowly past my fenced yard off and on for the last three weeks.

Last week one of the guys (there were 2 men) got out by my side fence and bent down to call the dogs-luckily I was standing at the door and was out there like a shot. Needless to say, they took off.

Four nights ago, just at dusk, I heard that truck again. This time they pulled up the the front fence (so all I could see was the side of the truck-no plates). Two of my dogs were out. The guy in the passenger side jumped out and was at my fence in a second, bent down and calling "come here puppy want this come here.."

Again, luckily I've been keeping an Eagle Eye on my dogs. I ran out and called Baily (he was closest) and at the same time screamed "What the hell are you doing"...well he was in the truck and gone in 2 seconds.

The next day, Dan was out in back by the garage, and Mason trotted up to him! We couldn't figure out how in the world he'd gotten out, until Dan checked the fence. The spot where this dog thief was squatting the night before had used wire cutters to snip several pieces of our fence wire...just enough to reach in and grab the dogs.

Please be advised that there has also been a report of a dark haired woman in a coupe-like red car who has been spotted doing the same thing. God knows how many there are and how many vehicles are being used.

PLEASE use caution when letting your dogs out. Mine will never go out alone again!

Can My Dog Eat This?

Grapes and Raisins. These contain an unknown substance which can cause acute renal failure in some dogs. Even a handful could cause death. Dogs have died after ingesting 0.41 to 1.1 ounces per kilogram of body weight. (1 kg = 2.2 lbs.) Early symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea, followed by signs of kidney failure starting about 24 hours after ingestion, which may not be noticeable for the first 3 to 5 days. If you notice your dog ingested grapes or raisins, seek treatment immediately. It is unknown why some dogs seem not to be affected at all, while others react to a small amount and die. "Grapeseed extract" is safe for dogs, and is used in dog foods as a rich source of powerful antioxidants called proanthocyanidins.

Chocolate and Cocoa. Theobromine is a methylxanthine compound similar to caffeine, but only 25% as effective as a stimulant for humans. Both can be fatal to dogs and birds. Do not let your dog ingest types of chocolate that contain the highest levels of Theobromine, which are pure cocoa powder, baker's chocolate, and dark chocolate (in that order), since ingesting even smaller quantities may be toxic. Just two ounces of baker's chocolate can kill a small dog! Be aware that cocoa bean mulch used in gardens may get eaten by dogs, and it also contains high levels of Theobromine (300 to 1200 mg per ounce). Ingesting over 9 ounces can kill a 50 pound dog. Early symptoms of chocolate toxicity are: hyperactivity, sudden excitement or "manic" type of behavior, muscle tremors, rapid heart rate, and increased urination - similar to an overdose of caffeine in humans. If chocolate or caffeine ingestion was observed, inducing vomiting within two hours may help. Get veterinary treatment IMMEDIATELY, for ingesting a high dose can cause death within 12 hours. Caffeine. Ingesting caffeine raises a dog's heart rate to a dangerous level, and has been known to cause seizures, and sometimes death. Early symptoms of caffeine ingestion occur quickly and include: hyperactivity or excitement, rapid heart rate, muscle tremors, and increased urination. Note that coffee beans, instant coffee powder, coffee grounds, guarano beans, tea, "energy" drinks, weight loss pills, colas and many clear and colored soft drinks contain high levels of caffeine which can affect a dog's central nervous system and heart. (Colas and soft drinks also contain way too much sugar, which could cause pancreatitis, or could contain Xylitol which is also toxic to dogs.)

Later symptoms of caffeine ingestion are: vomiting, restlessness or hyperactivity, muscle tremors, heart palpitations, and even death. Give lots of water and take your dog to the vet immediately. Note that both caffeine and nicotine are narcotic drugs which affect the brain and nervous system, and less than a drop of pure nicotine or caffeine could kill a large human or dog as quickly as a heroin overdose.

Nicotine and Tobacco. Nicotine found in cigarettes and cigars or their butts, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco, nicotine patches, and nicotine gum can be fatal to dogs, cats, birds - and human babies - if they are eaten. Early symptoms of nicotine ingestion may appear within an hour, and include: hyperactivity, salivation, panting, vomiting, and diarrhea. Advanced symptoms include: rapid heart rate, muscle tremors or twitching, muscle weakness, collapse, coma, and cardiac arrest. Give lots of water and take your pet to the vet immediately.

Alcohol. When a dog ingests alcohol it can cause disorientation and lead to injury, sickness, urination problems, or even coma or death from alcohol poisoning. Just one ounce can sometimes be lethal. Alcohol is present in beer, ale, hard cider, wine, liquor, spirits, liqueurs, vodka or rum "cooler" drinks, vanilla extract, and some herbal tinctures. "Denatured" alcohol used to fuel fondue and food warmers is a deadly poison to dogs, cats and humans.

Nutmeg. This is a brownish spice often used in eggnog and mulled cider. It affects the central nervous system of dogs and may cause tremors or seizures. If larger amounts of nutmeg are ingested it can cause death (in humans too).

Raw Salmon and Trout. These two tasty fish can be infected with a parasite called Nanophyetus salmincola, a type of trematode worm which itself is often infected with a type of bacteria known as Neorickettsia helminthoeca that only affects canines, not other animals. Dogs can show symptoms such as: weakness, loss of appetite, vomiting, swollen glands, and fever - and 90% of untreated dogs die. Thorough cooking kills the both the worm and the bacteria. Note that sushi may contain raw salmon.

Raw Eggs. RAW chicken and chicken eggs can be infected with Salmonella bacteria which cause food poisoning in dogs and humans, and cats are the most susceptible. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include: fever, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Egg yolks are generally safe, but raw egg whites contain a protein called avidin which can deplete your dog of biotin, one of the B vitamins (though some research indicates that it would take large quantities of egg whites to cause this condition). Symptoms of biotin depletion are: weakness, hair loss, retarded growth, and deformity of the skeleton.

However, cooked eggs are safe, very nutritious, and make a fine doggie treat. Thorough cooking at a temperature above 180 degrees Fahrenheit kills Salmonella bacteria and destroys its toxin, so hard-boiled eggs make a safe and healthy dog treat.

Peanuts and Sunflower Seeds. These, and peanut butter, are not normally toxic. But the sunflower seeds or peanuts and particularly the hulls are too often contaminated with Aspergillus fungus mold that produces Aflatoxin which can cause liver damage and death for dogs, the mammal most sensitive to Aflatoxin poisoning. Field corn and wheat are also very frequent hosts for this toxic mold that is especially deadly to dogs and birds.

Levels of Aflatoxin too low to harm pigs or people can be fatal to dogs and birds, who are the MOST sensitive to it. Even the U.S. FDA "acceptable" concentration of aflatoxin contamination in peanuts fit for humans - a maximum of 20 ppb - may not protect your dog. Note that cooking can kill the fungus, but will NOT deactivate any of the poisonous aflatoxin which it may have already produced. Thus feeding sunflower seeds, peanuts or peanut hulls to a dog may seem too much of a risk for Aflatoxin Poisoning.

Moldy foods. If it's a mold like Aspergillus which produced aflatoxin it can be severely toxic or fatal to dogs.

Cooked Chicken Bones. Raw chicken bones are flexible and not usually a problem, but when cooked they get brittle and can splinter into sharp little daggers that tear your dog's throat or intestines. Some other types of cooked bones like ham, pork chop, pork ribs, and veal can also get brittle and may pose a danger to your dog. Feeding RAW, uncooked bones like chicken necks and beef knuckles are the safest choice, and may help clean plaque from your dog's teeth. Rawhide "bones" sometimes cause choking when hard pieces break off, so keep an eye on your dog while he chews them.

Corn Cobs when swallowed in chunks can lodge in your dog's throat or intestines, with sometimes fatal results. Do NOT feed your dog corn on the cob or allow access to corn cobs. Also note that dogs cannot digest corn, and it may cause a food allergy. Corn is also a frequent host for the white fungal mold that produces aflatoxin which is deadly to dogs.

Raw Bread Dough and Bread-making Yeast. The yeast which causes bread and pizza dough to rise will ferment and expand and produce alcohol in a dog's warm stomach, which can cause alcohol poisoning, disorientation, discomfort, vomiting or unsuccessful attempts at vomiting, bloating, and even rupture of the intestines - even in small amounts, since the raw dough expands to many times its original size. Small dogs are most at risk. If a large amount was eaten or you see the stomach swells significantly - a condition called "bloat" - EMERGENCY TREATMENT is necessary. Do not waste time! Get your dog to the vet right away, because bloat can quickly cause serious problems and even lead to death. See more on "bloat" below. ("Brewers Yeast" is different than baking yeast, and is a safe nutritional supplement.)

Raw Cookie Dough or Cake Mix. The baking powder which creates carbon dioxide gas bubbles to expand the cookie or cake mix can create gas in the warm stomach and intestines of a dog which eats the unbaked mix. The expansion of the raw mixture can cause flatulence, discomfort, and bloating. Ingesting large amounts could possibly cause a rupture of the intestines, so in this case, inducing vomiting as soon as possible may help. If significant swelling of the stomach or "bloat" has occurred, take your dog for emergency treatment IMMEDIATELY!

Fruit pips. The seeds, stems, and leaves of apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears and plums all contain cyanogenic glycosides - which can produce cyanide poison when metabolized in the dog's body. While these glycosides are not harmful to humans, some have the potential to cause vomiting and loss of appetite in dogs and cats. Ingesting large amounts can cause these symptoms: dilated pupils, difficulty breathing, hyperventilation, weakness, staggering - or even shock, coma, and death. The flesh or pulp of these fruits is not toxic and can safely be fed to a dog.

Apple Seeds, Stems and Leaves. See Fruit pips above. The flesh of the apple fruit is safe, and many dogs love to eat apples. Just remove the toxic stem and pips. Keep stored apples out of reach of your dog, who may eat the whole apple with stems and seeds.

Potatoes. The starchy white flesh inside raw or cooked potatoes is not harmful, but potato skins which are still green and any green sprouts or "eyes" contain the alkaloid solanum which is poisonous to dogs and humans. You should store raw potatoes out of reach of your dog, for they often grow little green sprouts which are toxic if the dog eats them. And don't let your dog get at potato peelings from the garbage bin.

Avocado. The fruit, leaves, and bark contain a toxic compound called persin - especially in the skins - which can damage the heart, lung and other tissues of a dog. If larger quantities are ingested, the high fat content of avocado fruit can trigger vomiting or even lead to pancreatitis, so keep your dog away from guacamole dip made from avocado. Symptoms of avocado ingestion include: difficulty breathing, enlarged abdomen, and abnormal fluid accumulations in the chest and abdomen and around the heart. The hard pit inside is also toxic, and can cause choking or intestinal blockage if swallowed.

Mushrooms. The mushrooms normally eaten by humans are safe, but feeding mushrooms to your dog might encourage your pet to eat wild mushrooms which may be poisonous enough to cause sickness or even death. If your dog goes outside, you should remove all wild mushrooms in your yard, and don't let him eat any mushrooms he may encounter while on a walk or hike with you.

Milk & Dairy Products. About 50% of dogs, like some humans, are lactose intolerant, i.e. unable to digest Lactose, which is also called "milk sugar". Their bodies do not produce the enzyme lactase which can break down lactose. This can cause stomach cramps, gas, foul smelling excrement, and diarrhea. Cheese, cottage cheese, and plain yogurt (with no sugar added) contain less lactose, so most dogs can tolerate small amounts of these dairy foods which many dogs love as a treat. Note that cow milk is quite often contaminated with aflatoxin produced by Aspergillus mold, but at very low levels considered safe for humans. Yet that level may be unsafe for canines, who are MUCH more sensitive to this poison than any other mammals.

Onions and Garlic. In dogs, cats and other mammals, ingesting large quantities at once or the continual consumption of raw onions, garlic, chives and leeks (members of the Allium family) which contain thiosulphate, can cause red blood cells to rupture and result in Heinz-Body Hemolytic Anemia. Ingesting 2.5 grams of dehydrated onions per pound of body weight causes hemolysis and anemia in dogs, especially in Akitas and Japanese Simbas. Small puppies have died of hemolytic anemia after being fed human baby food containing onion powder, and it can make kittens sick. Garlic has a lesser effect than onions, and only larger amounts of garlic cause problems. To stop eating onions and garlic can reverse the anemia.

Baby Food. Do not feed human baby food to puppies, especially if the formula contains onion powder or certain vegetables in this list. Refer to "Onions and Garlic" above.

Broccoli. This vegetable is nutritious for dogs in small amounts, but if the amount exceeds about ten percent of their daily food intake the substance isothiocyanate can cause gastrointestinal irritation.

Tomatoes and Rhubarb. The stems and leaves contain oxalates, which can cause bladder stones.

Xylitol. This natural-source sweetener is often used in sugar-free candy and gum. Eating large amounts can cause a drop in blood sugar for dogs - but not humans - which can lead to weakness, staggering, and other symptoms of hypoglycemia). A sudden drop in blood sugar could result in loss of coordination and seizures, sometimes less than 30 minutes after your dog ingests enough Xylitol.

Macadamia Nuts. Eating as little as six nuts can cause elevated body temperature, accelerated heartbeat, anxiety, weakness, muscle tremors, and paralysis of the hindquarters of a dog, which usually ends in a few days. The cause is not known.

Walnuts. Eating walnuts can cause gastroenteritis in dogs

All tree nuts. These nuts contain high levels of phosphorus which can lead to the formation of bladder stones in dogs. Tree nuts like Brazil nuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts sold for human consumption are often contaminated with very low levels of poisonous aflatoxin from Aspergillus mold which the U.S. FDA considers safe for humans. Yet that same low concentration may be toxic to dogs and birds, which are the animals MOST sensitive to this poison.

Turkey Skin or Ham Fat. Any high-fat meal can cause acute pancreatitis in dogs that have a fixed diet like commercial dog food and are not used to high-fat foods like these. Symptoms of pancreatitis include vomiting and pain in stomach. Emergency treatment is needed.

Liver. Eating this animal organ is safe and nutritious in small amounts. But it contains high levels of Vitamin A, and ingesting large amounts or feeding liver to a dog already receiving Vitamin A supplements can lead to Vitamin A toxicity (hypervitaminosis A). Feeding your dog three servings of raw or cooked liver a week could lead to bone problems. Symptoms of hypervitaminosis A are: weight loss, anorexia, deformed bones, and excessive bone growth on the hocks and spine. If untreated, hypervitaminosis A can result in death.

Deli Meats. Processed and smoked meats such as sausages, pastrami, prosciutto, pancetta, pepperoni, bacon, and various "cold cuts" contain high levels of sodium and nitrates which may cause kidney and digestive problems in dogs.

Tuna fish. Canned or cooked tuna which has been deboned is a nutritious food and a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids, but much of the tuna caught in the ocean is now contaminated with unhealthy levels of Mercury. A steady diet of tuna can lead to a build-up of Mercury, which is toxic to dogs and cats and humans. Albacore or "white" tuna contains the highest levels of mercury, as do shark, swordfish, and king mackerel. Lower levels are found in the "light" type of tuna fish, so avoid "white" and choose "light". Tilapia and salmon are fish with low levels of mercury, but uncooked salmon can be toxic to dogs (see "Raw Salmon" above).

Carrots. Many dogs love this vegetable as a healthy treat that also helps clean a dog's teeth. But be aware that carrots absorb more pesticides from the ground than all other vegetables, which is why farmers often plant a carrot crop to remove excessive pesticide build-up in the soil. It would be safer to feed your dog (and yourself) organic carrots grown on farms which use no pesticides at all.

More on Chocolate... Compared to cocoa or dark chocolate, milk chocolate contains much less Theobromine - which is similar to Caffeine but only about 25% as potent as a stimulant. Cocoa powder and dark chocolate actually provide many health benefits to humans, but Theobromine can cause cardiac arrest in dogs since they simply lack the enzymes necessary to metabolize quantities of Theobromine in excess of 100 to 150 mg per kilogram of the dog's body weight. It can also cause pancreatitis.

So you should avoid feeding your dog cocoa powder, bakers chocolate, or chocolate candies, or leaving them where your dog might find them and eat a large quantity. Ingesting sufficient amounts of chocolate can be fatal to a dog. Occasionally sharing a SMALL quantity of MILK chocolate (like a few "M&M" candies) as a treat is not likely to harm your dog, but the smaller the dog, the less chocolate it would take to kill your dog. And feeding chocolate will condition your dog to seek and eat chocolate. "White chocolate" contains little real chocolate or Theobromine, for it is made from cocoa butter, but it is very high in fats and refined sugar. Remember to avoid using cocoa bean mulch for landscaping or gardening, because your dog may be attracted to the taste and ingest a potentially dangerous dose of Theobromine.

Pet owners should only induce vomiting when directed to do so by a veterinarian, but 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can be given at home to induce vomiting as emergency first aid to help remove poisons or potentially toxic substances from your dog or cat's stomach - such as antifreeze (ethylene glycol), which requires a very rapid response. Use about 1 millilitre (ml) per pound of body weight, not exceeding 45 ml or 3 tablespoons. Do not force it down the pet's throat or it could flow into the lungs. Make sure the animal is swallowing the liquid. Do NOT induce vomiting if your pet exhibits tremors or other neurological signs, or if it has ingested caustic chemicals which burn, or oils or other substances which could damage the gastrointestinal tract or enter the lungs during vomiting.

Using salt water or mustard to induce vomiting are not reliable enough in an emergency. Giving syrup of ipecac is another way to induce vomiting, if you have it available. The 3% hydrogen peroxide can also be applied externally to disinfect scrapes and wounds in pets and humans. Giving activated charcoal (available at your local drug store) will help absorb poisons in the pet's stomach.

Also note that ingesting human medications and drugs is the #1 cause of animal poisonings (chocolate is #8 and veterinary medications are #4). Do NOT assume that some medications like aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol®) which help humans are also good for your dog. Some can be fatal to a dog! (And do not feed cat food to a dog, or use dog flea treatments on a cat.)

Sammy, a white Terrier/Poodle Mix dog was walking on a leash with her owner, Shelly.

When an unleashed pit bull attacked Sammy while at Eagle Rock Recreation Center in Eagle Rock, CA on Wednesday November 25, 2009 around 6:30pm.

Sammy (Sam) was bitten in the neck and hind quarter. Frighted Sammy ran away towards Figueroa.

Sam is usually very friendly, but might be shy and scared now that she is injured and lost.

In her attempt to get away from attacking pit bull, Sammy lost her collar. Sammy is microchipped with AVID FriendChip.

Sammy may be hiding nearby in the surrounding neighborhoods, and since she is injured... time is of the essence!

Hi everyone:

I have a favor to ask of you guys. I normally don't post like this on these groups but things are down to the nitty-gritty now, so I must turn to all you guys for help. As many of you know, I have a daughter with Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS). After so many surgeries during her 15 yrs, she will be having the surgery of so far in her life on October 28th: the LeFort jaw surgery (where they break both upper and lower jaws and realign) with a few other surgeries during this surgery. I'm extremely nervous and anxiety-ridden as we head for this surgery.

Many of you also know that I have three wonderful beagles (two are beagle/basset mixes) and right now I'm in the dog contest of a lifetime (with a grand prize of a million dollars)! I've been in this contest for 10 l-o-n-g weeks and there are only 2 weeks left of the contest. Last week, Hoover made it to #11 in the Top 30 Dogs in this contest (out of 60,000 dogs), which many of you are already responsible for in helping to make that happen! Now with only two weeks left, it is urgent that Hoover and I find any and everybody we can find to vote every single day of the last two weeks. It's important to note that each week ends on a Saturday night and begins again on Sunday morning (12am PDT) so the votes are zero'ed out every Saturday night at midnight for another start on Sunday. So it's important that each Sunday begin with a bang! This is why I write to you tonight.

I am sending this to different groups that I'm on; some of you know me as an advocate for families for different reasons, like: cochlear implants and baha's, Treacher Colllins and other craniofacial syndromes, atresia/microtia, deafness, jaw surgeries, beagle and other dog rescue, etc.

Minnesota Horse Council - Crow Hassan Trail Ride

This past weekend I drove to Crow-Hassan Park Reserve for the Minn esota Horse Council Fall Trail Ride. This was the first time I have attended this ride. What a lovely weekend I had!

The Crow Hassan horse trails are quite beautiful this time of year. The fall colors were a quilt of yellows, greens, and reds... with a dash of snow.

My friend Pat riding her cute Icelandic Horse mare named Dimmalimm.

We camped at the Blue Stem group campground, it's very nice. It's offers a handful of hitching rails, bathrooms, water and a wonderful shelter with a wood burning stove. The wood stove was greatly appreciated this weekend, since it was a very chilly weekend.

Our camping site.....early Friday evening.

Friday night, it got very cold and Saturday morning, I woke up to find snow on the ponies. And a harsh wind blowing though the campground.

It was 24 degrees when I woke up! Brrr!

The park offers about 11 miles of the flat to gently rolling horse trails that meander through the woods and along the prairies with views of the Crow River.

The MN Horse Council treated us to a wonderful weekend of riding, friendship and oh yes.....delicious food!

On Saturday, Deb made sloppy joes for lunch and Darrel deep fried a turkey for dinner. YUMMY!

The MN Horse Council even had door prizes for all the riders who braved the winter temps and snow to attend their ride. I won a warm comfy fleece riding vest! Happy Camper!!

Tamarack Horse Camping Trip

This past weekend I finally made it to Tamarack Horse Campground in St. Croix State Forest, which is located in the Hinckley, Minnesota area.

The trip was amazing! I love.....LOVE the Tamarack trails.

The scenery is quite beautiful, especially near the winding rushing Tamarack River.

You will find that the terrain is varied, from flat land to steep hills with breathtaking views and of course....awesome river crossings.

The flat trails can be found on the Gandy Dancer trail system. The steep challenging trails are located in the St. Croix Forest system.

The horse trails meander back and forth, up and down from the beautiful Tamerack River. The Tamarack slowly winds its' way through St. Croix State Forest on it's way down to the St. Croix River. I think there are about 20 miles of St. Croix State Forest trails.

There are three trail systems located in the St. Croix State Forest.

The Gandy Dancer Trail offers ATV/OVH trails, which can also be accessed on horseback. All ATV users we encounter were very respectful and courteous! This system has 31.2 miles of trails. These trails were old logging and railroad beds, so they are wide and fairly flat. Expect for the "whoops" and banks created by the ATV/OVH.

The Willard Munger State Trail, this system is a multi-use trail, it offers 80 miles of trails. These trails travel through St. Croix State Park, Chengwatana State Forest, St. Croix State Forest and Nemadji State Forest.

Most of the trails there are technical and very challenging. Your horse needs to be conditioned for climbing steep grades and sure footed for working on the down grades. The trails are narrow single tracks, running along the rim.....overlooking the Tamarack River. Many are old deer trails, so this will give you an idea on the width.

Many areas are so steep, that trail maintenance consists of "wooden step boxes", and if you are riding a short horse such as my Ice Pony Huginn, you find that he needed to jump from step to step to work his way up the steep hills.

The trail may not look steep in this photo, but it was!! Huginn had to do a running jump all the way up the trail. This is one of many...many so called "boxed step trails". LOVE IT!!!!

Yes, we had rain, rain and more rain, but that didn't keep us off the trails. We were blessed with a no-rain window midday Saturday! And the temps were chilly, perfect for a furry Ice Pony.

Our guide was Bobbie and her faithful steed, Amadeus.

I so enjoyed riding with Bobbie, she rides the way I love to ride. Hard, long and fast! Thank you Bobbie for the great ride!!

The Tamerack Horse Campground is huge. It offers three loops with 55 camp sites and a large day use area. Many of which is tucked into the woods for privacy. Each camp site has high tie lines for your ponies. You will also find clean toilets! Water is available, but you will need a generator to work the water pump.

Wisconsin's state motto is "Escape to Wisconsin". But for thousands of Wisconsin dogs, there is no escape from the horrid, inhumane conditions that they are forced to endure their entire lives.

While the below video took place in Texas, please keep in mind that this also happens in the State of Wisconsin.

Life for a puppy mill dog.............

Living in wire cages, barely large enough to allow a dog to fully stand upright.

Wire cage bottoms where delicate paws and legs are trapped and ripped off.

Extreme cold and heat conditions.

Lack of food.

Lack of water.

Lack of exercise.

Lack of proper veterinary care.

Vocal cords ripped out by breeders with pipes, or other metal items.

Forced to live in overcrowded deplorable conditions.

Force to have litter, after litter, after litter, after litter, after litter, after litter, after litter, until they can no longer reproduced! Then they are dropped off at kill shelters, dumped on roadsides, left to starve to death, or taken out behind the barn to be shot.

But, worst of all, these poor dogs never know the "kind touch of a human" nor are they "loved"!!!

What can you do to help?

Do not buy your next pet. Rescue your next pet and save a life.

Do not buy from a pet store.

Contact your State Legislator and ask them to support bill AB-250/SB-208, known as Puppy Mill Law.

This is a law intended to regulate the commercial sales and raising of animals. It imposes reasonable restrictions and a licensing system for people who raise pets for a living.

Another wonderful weekend trail riding and horse camping!

We headed out to Hay Meadow Flowage, Chippewa County Forest in the Bloomer, Wisconsin area. The old map shows only about 9 miles of trails, but there are close to 20 miles of beautiful trails. As well as lots of mountain bike and ATV trails. We saw many ATV's, but no mountain bikes. BTW....they have their own trails!

We had planned on doing a CMO, but it was just not to be. My riding pals decided that they wanted to trail ride instead. On Saturday, we rode and rode. FUN! Steve's new horse Gypsy did awesome! I think she has a crush on Huginn. <:O]

We were however able to get the Saturday CMO map and used it on Sunday to find a few plates. Dawn and Rosie got to try out their compass skills. The plate is hidden by pony boy's forelock.

I drove Dixie on Saturday, Dawn came along. What a workout that was for mini Dixie. The gravel roads were very rolling, steep in a few places with deep loose gravel. We had to get out of the mini cart a few times to make it a bit easier for Dixie to get up the grades. Her little legs were just a workin'.

OH!!!!! While driving to the horse camp, I almost hit a young black bear! It was about 50lbs, and a cute little ball of black fur making it's way across the camp road.♠

Saturday afternoon, I met the nicest couple, Jeanne and Mike. They are members of the Midwest Trail Gaiters, a gaited horse saddle club. I have been meaning to join this club for a few years now, I guess I best get my membership application filled out. It's so much fun to ride with other gaited horses and move out on the trail.

I'm about a week behind on camping trip updates...sorry!

Wow.....time for the Willow River Riders Fall Round Up! (two weekends ago!!)

I can't believe fall is almost here. While fall is my favorite time of the year, it also means the riding season is winding down, and that is a bummer.

Once again, my saddle club had a great weekend a Eau Galle Recreation Area, in Spring Valley, Wisconsin.

The weather....while a bit on the warm and muggy side...was enjoyable. The trails as always were beautiful, thanks to the efforts of our saddle club members during the trail maintenance days.

The fall colors are just starting to peek out.

My friend Debora and I dressed the same, well...almost.

We had the same tank top on, pink with little horses and rhinestones. Debora rides western and I ride english. The photo is not the best, as the camera setting was changed and I had to photoshop the photo to darken it up a bit.

Labor Day Weekend Photos

Over Labor Day weekend, I met freinds at Hay Creek State Forest in Red Wing, MN. We had such a wonderful weekend. Riding, camping, driving and giggling non-stop!

I do need to upload my videos, she's so darn cute. Dixie had fun driving with Margie's 14 hand WelshX pony mares and Sherry's 12 hand Hackney pony mare. Saturday night, we drove to Dressen's Saloon which has a horse campground,as well as a people campground, everyone loved seeing our three carts. It was a hoot.

When I got home from my weekend camping trip, I let the ponies out to pasture for about 30 minutes, while I cleaned out the trailer/RV. Course, they rolled and rolled and got covered in dirt. HA!

Then I called them in for their dinner. Oh...I have barrels and tires set up at my gate, so the ponies have to jump them to get into the paddock. Film is not the best, but you see them jumping. <;o]

Today, while picking up a few food items for this weekend's camping trip, I found these new Haagen-Dazs mini ice cream cups. Conveniently located at the end of the check-out lane.

They come with a little golden scoop. Which is just a tad too small.

The little snack cup is 4 ozs, which is perfect for those times you just want a little taste of chocolate.

It's was a yummy snack!

This morning, I went to Kowalski's in Stillwater, Minnesota to pick up a few items. You know...pita bread, soy milk, cheese, veggies, fruit, etc.

I really love shopping at Kowalski's, they have a wonderful varity of fresh foods, grass feed meats and a yummy deli.

But I want to know ... what is wrong with these photos?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE...love Halloween! But, it's still August! School hasn't even started.

Can we please get through Labor Day first?

Hand is Doing Well

I had another hand procedure done yesterday. Doc took the K wires (pins) out. I guess my tendons was rubbing on them and I was risking puncturing my tendons.

I really hate going into surgery.

Hate the crap they give you to knock you out. Hate the smells in there, hate the chill in the air, hate waking up sick to my stomach. The whole thing just plain scares the hell out of me.

Why is it that they always say "You're going to like how you feel" when they give you the crap to knock you out?

I HATE THAT FEELING!

I guess that is why I do not drink nor do drugs, I do not like that "oozy out of this world feeling"... no thanks!

The staff at Regions in Hastings was wonderful and my doc chatted with me about barrel racing before the procedure. It's good to have a horse lover and owner for a surgeon, he understands how important it is to get "back into the saddle". My doc's weekend up in Fergus Falls running cans was fun for him and his son.

When I got home yesterday from the hospital, my hand was hurting just a bit, but I was sick to my stomach. Yucky....I hate throwing up and being doped up.

Today, I feel much better! And the pain is bearable. No need for the drugs that they sent home with me. Guess, I toss them away.

Oh...I didn't get much sleep last nite, it was storming bad. Lots of lightening and very loud, bed shaking thunder. My girl doggies, Lucy and Molly were very scared. They both crawled onto me to snuggle and it's hard to breath with 80 lbs of doggies on top. HA!

Bum Knee & Bum Hand

Y'all know that my right hand is crap, and once again ...I'm heading back into surgery tomorrow for one more procedure. They are removing the pins, cuz a tendon is rubbing on them. Doc think it may rupture the tendons.

On top of that, I hurt my left knee a few months ago.

It feels like I'm falling apart. HA!

Anywho...my hubby, the funny guy, surprised me with this funny look a few mornings ago.

Love Heaven Sent

Lunch and a great read!

"Postcards" by T.Faron is a lovely book that shows us that love, no matter how much time it spans...is everlasting.

When Sara and Ryan met, they had no idea that they had been searching for each other. Their love gave them the strength to recover from heart breaks, and most of all it gave Sara the strength she needed to face her greatest fear. But, this was not just a love story, it was a love triangle. Between a man, a woman and a beagle named Molly.

I enjoyed how T. Faron let us peeked into the every day life of Ryan, Sara and Molly. Sara saw the depth of Ryan's love with his simple gestures; a special bone for Molly, letters, roses and postcards from heaven.

Love stories are usually not my first choice to read, but this one caught me and I couldn't put it down until I read the last sentence.

"Postcards" is a book that will be enjoyed by all for it's message of love, hope and dreams.

As with all of this author's books, Postcards will leave you wishing for another chapter.

When I was younger I wore high heels all the time, but in the last five years or so, it's been flats, boots, sneakers or short heeled shoes.

A few days ago, I went to lunch with a girlfriend, and then...we went shoe shopping. She stills wears heels.

I found a pair of beautiful shoes.

But where the heck would I wear them?

How the heck, am I supposed to walk in them?

Pretty...huh?

I guess I could go dancin' in them!

I do however what to share with you a heartwarming story about two beagles owned by my friend Dawn S. and her family. They rescued these two lost souls from Virginia Beach SPCA.

Hello All,

The pic that comes up on my profile was my beagle mix I had for eight years, his name was Joey and he passed away 2 years ago due to a disease he picked up overseas at the time we were in the military. We did everything we could to save him but his liver and kidneys were shutting down and we had to let his go in peace. Since his death I was not able to even look at another dog for there was no other dog like Joey.

But my animal heart got lonely and I missed having a dog with me. So 6 months after his death I was ready to walk into the Virginia Beach SPCA and look. My heart got bigger and a smile came over my face like I was right where I belonged that day.

As I was saying hello to every dog in the kennel, one looked at me and turned away. He was on his cot far from the other dog in the cage and away from people. So I went behind the kennel and got on my knees and told him it was ok, to come here, after many attempts he did. He was scared and so sweet!!

I asked the volunteer if I could spend some time with him in the private room. So I sat on the floor with my husband and son and he was placed on my lap. He was shaking and would flinch every time someone would move to quickly. But he just laid there and I was hoping he trusted me.

After about 30 mins (I knew in 5) that we were suppose to be together I had to have him. I knew I could love him. So the volunteer came and said to us that the other dog in the cage that were placed together were just put in today together and that they were the only ones that got along so well.

So the SPCA had so many other dogs that these dogs were pretty much buy one dog get another dog. She still had to be spayed and you could tell that she had had a litter before. So after much discussion with my husband about 2 dogs now, we fell in love with them that day in that little yellow room.

So after we told the volunteers we wanted them both, they went to get the paper work, but another lady came instead and as we were filling out the application she asked if we wanted to know the history of these dogs. We said of course. She then replies and tells us that they came from the "Micheal Vick land".

I was speechless and looked at them and I cried in the inside, my heart broke. The volunteer then asked if we still wanted to adopt them. My husband and I looked at each other without saying a word, it felt like forever but he could see it in my eyes that I needed them just as much as they needed us. We said yes without hesitation, they needed love like never before. We were not, could not leave them now, and we didn't.

We took him home, Archey (male beagle) the next day, I have never seen a dog so scared in my whole life. This was the first time his paws touched carpet, or had his own fluffy dog bed, the first time he has had many first. I can't even describe to to whom ever is reading this the hurt the anger the disgust that I felt for the "person and people" who could have ever done anything to these sweet sweet dogs. He was so scared and timed that anytime you would approach him he would want to run and hide and be left alone. We gave him his space knowing that we would be getting Mabel (female beagle) the next morning. He stayed in the corner all night, didn't want to go outside to use the bathroom or even eat or drink. So we left him alone so he could wonder around without being "followed". The next morning we woke up to a half eaten bowl of food and dog accidents on the carpet. He knew no better, but to take him outside we had to put a leash on him and physically take him outside. (It is a fenced in yard). We thought he wanted to do his business alone.

My son and I got ready to pic up Mabel from her surgery, and Archey could smell exactly where we were and didn't want to go back inside of the SPCA. But once he got in and saw his friend Mabel, his little tail started to wag and right there I knew that they had to have each other.

We got home and they were and still are attached to each other. They mostly never leave each others side. We joke and say we should have named them 'Ying and Yang" cause that is what they look like laying together on there bed.

These poor dogs have never had attention, love or really any kind of loving care. (except in the SPCA). We knew what was in store for us. We have now had them for almost 2 years. The first year was having them trust us!!! Teaching them to use the bathroom outside, pretty much teaching them how to be a dog. Still to this day, Archey is still very timed and scared, but he does know that he is loved. He runs upstairs and hides in my closet if he sees something in your hand as your walking, and I mean anything!!!!

Mabel on the other hand has opened her heart fully to us. She trust us and howls, barks and gives us kisses whenever we want. Archey still needs time and we will give him as much time as he needs. We will never stop loving and spoiling these precious dogs that we met one day in a little yellow room.

So now that you have read this I believe you know exactly how I feel about M.Vick. A lot of people had no idea that he even had beagles on his land, but he did and he had 9. I will not go into why or what they needed beagles for. I'm sure you understand.

So please go ahead and tell this story to anyone, I have. I have even wrote to the president of the NFL, petitions that I find on the internet and some that friends have started because they have been around my dogs and the first thing you see from any of them or who has ever met my dogs, is their heads moving side to side like how could any human being do this to these animals.

I never want to see a smile on Vicks face, He did not get enough time with his punishment. I say this cause I am here everyday looking into my dogs eyes and wishing I could take all those bad memories out of there heads.

How can they/him do this to these dogs and to say your sorry, your not sorry about what you did, your sorry cause you got caught!! I hate him for what he did to all those dogs. And for those of you do not know me, I am not a "hate"person. If he does go back to the NFL, I hope his days there are thrown to the dogs.

No Dogs Allowed!

This weekend, I had planned to camp and ride a CMO at Lake Elmo Park Reserve. I made reservations a few weeks ago, and was going to ride with my Icey friends.

My dogs have never been to a kennel ...or away from home. When Dan and I go on holiday, we get a house sitter to care for the dogs and ponies.

And when I camp...I always take my girls, so it has never been an issue. Until now.

The girls, Lucy and Molly were going to stay home with Dan, he was going to "baby-sit".

This coming weekend was Dan's scheduled weekend off work, but he was forced into overtime. So, he is not able to be home, as he works 12 hour shifts and with the commute is gone 14-15 hours from home.

There is no way that I can leave the girls home alone with out a potty break for that amount of time.

So, I had to call my Icey friends to let them know that I can not join them at Lake Elmo.

I AM BUMMED!

IMHO.....the No Pets rule at Lake Elmo is dumb. DUMB!!

The Barn Smells Like Summer

I spent an awesome weekend with friends. Here's a photo of Jason, who is 6'6" sitting on my Icelandic Horse Huginn, who is 13.2 hands tall. That's 54" at the withers, or 4' 5".

They look so cute together!

My friend Jeanne came over for a visit today, I made yummy sweet pepper & purple onion quesadillas and ice tea. For desert, we had oatmeal cookies.

Jeanne is not a horse person, but she does enjoy heading out to the barn to give the ponies a treat and scratchies.

Afterward, while I was cleaning up the kitchen, she was channel surfing DirectTV. She came across "2001: A Space Odyssey" and stayed to watch it.

I bet I have seen this movie, at least....four times. I remember going to the theater when it was released. Back then, as now ... I do not understand the movie!

What the hell is that movie about? Man not understanding where they came from or where they are going?

And who or what is the Star Child at the end of the movie?

I even went to Stanley's web site seeking answers, and was even more confused. HA! For his site, please click here.

Geez...scratching my head. I may need to watch the sequels.

Wolf? Fox? Coyote?

All furry, all four legged and maybe in my neighborhood.

I had a friend over today who wanted to remove an old playhouse that I have on my property, as she is in need of a tack shed at her ranch. I have a cute little older play house that was built by the family who built my home, it was built for their six children.

She came over with a few freinds who were hoping to lift the play house onto some skids and slide it up on a flatbed trailer. But, her freinds thought the playhouse would fall apart, so she decided not to take it.

After she left, I headed over to my neighbors Bill and Susan's place... to chat with them. Susan is a master gardener and she walked back over to my place as I had some questions on a few things that are growing in my horse pasture. Susan was not sure what they were, she reminded me that she's a master gardener and not a weed specialist. HA!

I'll have to take a few photos of the "weeds" and post them here for you. Maybe I'll get some info from you.

Anywho, while chatting with Susan, she mentioned they had seen a large dog-like animal crossing from her place to mine.

She said it looked like a very large fox, small coyote and maybe even a small wolf.

All four legged, all furry and all ... I think...kinda cute.

I'm not worried about my ponies, as we have lots of other small critters "in-the-hood", for the dog-like beasties to eat. But, they best stay away from my barn cats!

Susan also mention that she had seen the black bear that my other neighbor saw at his bird feeder about a month ago.

Foxes, coyotoes, wolves and bears ...oh my!

Add that to the current mix of wildlife in my yard and pasture, it's a downright zoo.

I love it!

Hum...back to the Play House. I may need to find some paint and doll it up a bit.

Don't forget to fill the bird feeder!

Two cloned beagle puppies named as 'Magic' and 'Stem' sleep at a lab of a South Korean biotech firm, RNL Bio. RNL Bio said on it has developed a new method to clone dogs using stem cells derived from fat tissue that greatly increases the likelihood of success.
